The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed many inequities in our education systems. It has also affected people regardless of nationality, level of education, income or gender. But the same has not been true for its consequences, which have hit the most vulnerable hardest. Education is no exception, we have had to learn this the hard way as we experience seeing learners from underprivileged communities struggled to find their way past closed doors as their schools shutdown during the pandemic.
The inequities included access to the broadband and computers needed for online education, supportive environments needed to focus on learning, up to them is alignment between resources and needs. Learners in marginalised groups, who didn’t have access to digital learning resources or lacked the resilience and engagement to learn on their own, were left behind.
Access or lack thereof is the main inhibitor for a rural child, both to information and resources. Leaners have had to rely more on their own resources to continue learning remotely through the internet, television or radio. Teachers also had to adapt to new pedagogical concepts and modes of delivery of teaching, for which they may not have been trained.
The Exhibition for A Child Career Expo aims to provide support, knowledge and educate learners and parents by guiding them in the right directions for their future. This event is a prime platform that offers in-depth career guidance in all fields of studies, as well as how to access learnerships, internships and funding options across all the various business sectors and the public sector.
This two-day expo will bring various stakeholders to engage on programmes and interventions to propel the growth and quality of education in rural areas by providing new and innovative ways to access the relevant information to guarantee a better future for both themselves and their families.
